Mechanization is the product of a heavy metal project that began in mid 2003. The goal of this experiment was to answer a philosophical question that haunted its two principal members since their first encounter nearly two years prior: would it be possible to create a legitimate heavy metal album without having to deal with the personalities and talent limitations of metal musicians? What the team found was that this theory was not only possible; it was absolutely necessary.
As the band’s names implies, Mechanization is the result of replacing the labor of human musicians through more efficient technological means. Yes, it is true… Mechanization utilizes human played drums without a human drummer! How is this possible? The drum tracks featured in Mechanization's songs are the product of acoustically recording (with close range and room microphones) drum hits from an industry leading heavy metal drummer and manually reprogramming the acoustic recordings one drum hit at a time. Much like recording every key on a piano and then reprogramming a sequence of keystrokes, Mechanization achieved their dream - to obtain acoustically correct drum tracks with the ability to control every drum stroke… all without dealing with the attitudes and inabilities of a human musician.
It was once thought to be impossible. However, lead guitarist HMT and production mastermind/lead vocalist Terrorence teamed up to prove that a professionally self-written, recorded, and produced album was entirely possible when releasing Mechanization's debut album "Holon" in late 2007. The album in many respects was an experiment in that every piece was a separate exploration in to different song writing and production techniques. Ironically, in the end the band found that all songs beautifully married together to create a concept album that in itself defined a new style of heavy metal. When finished with this experimental voyage of absolute creative freedom, the band members admittedly "found" themselves and more acutely defined their styles and objectives for their next album.
Looking forward, the band is excited to write, record, and produce future albums with much more intensity than their debut. When asked for a description of the sound of Mechanization's next project, Terrorence answered, "take the heaviest riffs, drumming, and especially vocals on Holon, and consider them training wheels. The next album will be truly heavy, heavy metal."
